Cyprus officially the Republic of Cyprus is a Eurasian island nation
in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea
south of the Anatolian peninsula (Asia Minor) or modern-day Turkey. The
third largest island in the Mediterranean,
it is currently divided into four main portions. The name Cyprus has a
somewhat uncertain etymology. One suggestion is that it comes from the Greek
word for the cypress tree.
